Kathryn comes to film through her extensive experience as a freelance photographer whose work in both lifestyle photography and portraiture emphasizes a documentary style.  She also has an academic background in Political Science and International Development from Dalhousie University, and a Master’s degree in Political Science from York University.

Kathryn runs a successful wedding photography business and her documentary project work has been exhibited in Toronto, Calgary, Havana, New York City, Portland and Spain. She has travelled across Canada and the United States photographing women for the Arts4Choice Project, culminating in a focus feature in the Globe and Mail and a forthcoming book with Three O’Clock Press in 2014.  She has compiled a wide range of work on such diverse subjects as US War Resisters, Canadian Midwives, and Breastfeeding Mothers.

Kathryn has shot a number of stop-motion films and shot her first feature length live action, A Brand New You, in 2012 along with her partner and co-director Shawn Whitney.



Freya has worked steadily as a producer and actor in English and French doing film, television, theatre and voice work for over 10 years.  On film she can be seen in feature films such as The Back-Up man, The Legend of Sorrow Creek and Waiting Room.  She also had lead roles in award winning short films such as Chapeau de Pluie and Estranged.  On TV she has played reoccurring role in the series Granite Forks and learnt Swedish for a small part on series Covert Affairs (NBC). You may also recognize her voice.  Freya has been doing video game animation, cartoons and corporate narration voice work for 5 years now and has worked on over a dozen projects such as the honor obsessed, ass kicking samurai princess Ginchiyo Tachibana in the video game Samurai Warriors 2 for XBOX and PS2. In theatre she has appeared in The Curative, Binary, Sunday on the Rocks, Forking Mona Lisa and The Three Apollos, all of which she also produced with her production company White Raven Productions.  Freya can also be seen in all 14 of the Nearly World Famous Dufflebag Theatre Company shows.  She worked with Dufflebag Theatre for 6 years performing in English and French in over 600 schools year round all across Canada.  She has also performed at acclaimed festivals such as LUMINATO, Nuit Blanche, Hysteria at Buddies and Bad Times and the Festival of Ideas and Creation at Canadian Stage. Upcoming projects include co-producing and playing a lead role in the feature film A Brand New You, set to release in 2013.

Manuel has been acting since he was eight years old in theatre productions. He graduated from The National Theater School in Havana, Cuba in 1998, and went on to play a role in a Cubavision TV series production “Café Havana”, as well as a lead role in the feature film “ Hasta la Victoria Siempre” an Argentina-Cuba co-production. He worked with the renowned “Buendia Theater Company” where he produced and played the lead on an adaptation of the Eugene O’Neill play “Desire under the Elms”, before moving to Toronto in 2000. Manuel has studied Puppetry in Prague with Mijek Trenar and Clown with Helen Donnelly and Francine Coté. He recently performed a monologue “Emigrante” in the Rock.Paper.Sistahz Festival and in “The race” with Miko Sobreira in several cabarets around the city, including the Red Nose District and the Toronto Festival of Clowns where he won the Mark Purvis Bursary.  Some of English-language Manuel’s film and television credits include XIII: the series, Street without Exit, Mistletoe Over Manhattan, Wilderness, Piggy in a blanket, and Manhattan Undying. He was a co- producer and lead actor on A Brand New You. He also works as a Therapeutic Clown at Holland Bloorview Pediatric Hospital.

A graduate of York University’s Interdisciplinary Studies MA program and the Canadian Film Centre’s Feature Film Lab, Shawn is a filmmaker, writer and story editor. Previously he was founder and artistic director of Lost Carnival, a musical theatre company in Toronto, which produced several of his plays, including WAR: The Musical and Death’s Diner: Apocalyptic Dinner Theatre. He has acted as executive story consultant on several produced and upcoming feature films, including Magic Beyond Words: The JK Rowling Story (which won a Canadian Screen Award for best MOW), The Moth Diaries, and the upcoming Outcast with Nic Cage and Hayden Christensen. In 2012 he completed filming of a microbudget sci-fi comedy feature film entitled A Brand New You, which he wrote and co-directed with Kathryn Palmateer. Shawn has a number of TV series and feature film projects in development with award-winning filmmakers across Canada. In 2011 his made-for-TV thriller Fatal Performance starring Nicholle Tom was released internationally.

As executive story consultant with Mediabiz he provides extensive support throughout the creative development process, as well as the creation of original content, including TV series and feature films.
